Driven by the desire to create value
“As a consultant, you learn something new on each and every project you visit. I like that,” says Omega 365 Consultant, Oddvar André Nordal.
Oddvar André Nordal finds his job exciting and enjoys the challenges that comes with the job.
Oddvar finds his job fulfilling and enjoys the challenges that come with it. He came to Omega 365 with broad experience from a range of exciting industrial projects—but becoming a consultant wasn’t originally part of the plan. That changed when a project manager called him about an assignment, which became the starting point for a 15-year journey with Omega 365 Consulting.
“Back then, things were simpler. Project managers would often reach out directly to people they believed were right for the job. That’s how I got into Omega 365 and became part of this fantastic network,” he explains.
15 Years and counting
When asked what has kept him at Omega 365 for so long, Oddvar André answers:
“I like staying busy, and this job is never dull. There’s always something new to tackle, and you’re constantly moving between projects and locations. Most importantly, you’re always contributing to something that adds value. That’s incredibly rewarding. I feel right at home in the Omega 365 system. It’s honestly the best workplace I’ve ever had. And who knows what the future holds? I often joke that one day I’ll take over Johannes’s role as Department Manager,” he adds with a laugh.
A dynamic role
His Department Manager in Omega 365, Johannes Eide, has nothing but good things to say about Oddvar André.
“Oddvar has been a fantastic ambassador for Omega 365 Consulting across multiple projects. In Norwegian, we’d say he’s ‘solid wood’—a dependable, top-quality professional. Our clients consistently give excellent feedback on both his technical skills and personal qualities.”
Oddvar reflects on the consultant lifestyle, which often involves reconnecting with former colleagues on new projects. Opportunities are always around the corner, especially for those willing to travel. One highlight was working in South Korea on the Johan Sverdrup project. Despite being offered permanent roles and shares in other companies, Oddvar chose to remain with Omega 365 Consulting.
“I often say consultants are the builders of today. We’re constantly on the move from one assignment to the next, and we frequently cross paths. It’s a great community. Of course, we’re happy to deliver on short notice if needed—and thankfully, the flexibility goes both ways.”
Making an impact
Oddvar now commutes from Haugesund to Stavanger, where he works as an MC Manager on the Balder Future project, overseeing the upgrade of the Jotun FPSO production vessel. When his daughter is home, he enjoys more flexibility and can occasionally work remotely.
“As MC Manager, I need to stay close to the team handling MC check-out. Getting the details right is crucial, so I can’t work from home too often—even though we stay in constant communication. My role covers all disciplines on the project until the vessel is handed over to commissioning and testing,” he explains.
“This job has given me deep insight into many areas I didn’t know much about before.”
A varied background
Oddvar has built a broad and diverse career. He trained as an electrician and did his apprenticeship at Siemens in Haugesund. Later, he helped establish the electrical department at a technical bureau.
“After a few years, I needed a change. I was tired of pulling cables, which is often the main task for electricians in industry. That’s when I was offered a role as construction manager for B.young clothing stores in Norway. I coordinated all the disciplines and stayed on until the clothes were actually rolled into the stores. We opened 62 stores across the country. That was a great chapter,” he says.
He later spent several years at Solar Haugesund as a sales manager for offshore retail before joining Omega 365. More recently, he completed HSE studies at a technical college to further strengthen his qualifications.
Embracing challenges
Oddvar is energized by challenges and is always ready to go the extra mile to get the job done.
“I like driving the project forward and keeping the contractor on track. That’s what I enjoy most about being a consultant at Omega 365.”
He’s also made use of Omega 365’s Advantage program, which offers Teambuildings and access to Holiday Houses around the world.
“I’ve been on trips to Liverpool and Svalbard, and in August we’re heading to Brimiland. That’ll be fun.”
Life beyond work
Even with a dynamic job, taking time to recharge is important. Oddvar has found a good balance.
“We recently bought an apartment in the ski resort of Røldal, Norway. The whole family loves skiing, so I’m really looking forward to spending time there. And yes, I’ll even manage a trip without my laptop,” he says with a smile.
