A long-standing role in shaping Omega 365 USA

After fourteen years with Omega 365, Vice President of Project Services Mark Brand is stepping into retirement, closing a long career marked by growth, meaningful relationships, and experiences that shaped his time with the company.

Mark’s introduction to Omega 365 began in January 2012 after taking some time off following his previous role. A former client and friend introduced him to Øyvind Vik, President of Omega 365 USA, who was searching for someone with the experience and drive to help expand the consulting business in the United States. The timing aligned, and Mark decided to take the opportunity.

“The rest is history,” he says.

At the time, Omega 365’s US software division was well established, but the consulting division was small and in need of growth. The years that followed brought significant and steady expansion. The consulting team grew from four consultants in 2012 to more than 100 by 2016, and Omega 365’s software offering gained traction among major corporations including Chevron, Microsoft, and Air Products.

“Fast forward to today and we now have some of the largest corporations in the world as software clients,” he says, reflecting on how dramatically the landscape has evolved.

As the Houston office grew, it shifted from a small satellite location into a central part of Omega 365’s global environment. Øyvind Vik has seen this transformation up close and reflects on Mark’s role in shaping that journey.

“I have been fortunate to work alongside Mark for 14 years. He already had an extensive career prior to joining Omega and quickly became a key force behind our success and growth here in Houston.”

A culture built on trust

Throughout his time at Omega 365, Mark valued the trust and independence he was given, something that stood out compared to many of his previous roles.

“The autonomy, trust, and respect I was given to grow the business I was responsible for were different from most roles I had before. This was a cornerstone of Omega when I joined and remains an important reason for the company’s success.”

He describes Omega 365’s selective hiring philosophy as a natural extension of this culture, one that helps preserve the sense of responsibility and ownership that employees are given.

“Omega is very selective about the people they hire because of the trust and autonomy they are given. This does not work for everyone and is a big reason why people tend to stay long term with Omega.”

Two years ago, Mark transitioned from consulting to the software side, a shift he welcomed as a chance to explore new perspectives during the later part of his career.

Key experiences along the way

Mark’s career is filled with memorable moments, both before and during his years at Omega 365. One of the more unique highlights came in 2007 when he accepted the Queen’s Award on behalf of a former employer and had the opportunity to meet Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip.

His first visit to Ølensvåg also became a defining moment. Meeting Chairman and Founder Sigmund Lunde and CEO Petter Aalvik, and hearing their vision for the company, reinforced his belief that he had made the right decision in joining Omega 365.

He looks back on several meaningful contract awards, including Phillips 66 and Chevron on the consulting side, and Air Products on the systems side. He also remembers traveling with colleagues to Tromsø in 2014 to participate in the Midnight Sun Marathon, an experience he recalls with particular fondness.

“Competing with my Omega colleagues was unforgettable,” he says.

Stepping into a new chapter

As he moves into retirement, Mark plans to start with a simple goal: rest.

“I plan to take a long overdue break and enjoy it,” he says.

Even though he has retired from running, staying active remains important to him.

“I will continue my wellness lifestyle through power walking and time at the gym. Golf is a mainstay in our family, so I will definitely be doing more of that.”

Beyond that, he hopes to spend more time reading, learning to play the guitar, and continuing his involvement with Texas A&M University through the Construction Industry Advisory Board.

While he does not plan to return to consulting work, he adds that his connection to Omega 365 will remain.

“I remain loyal to Omega 365, and if they need me for anything, I will be there.”

A lasting impact

Mark’s steady presence, thoughtful leadership, and dedication to developing the US operation have left a lasting impression on Omega 365’s presence in Houston. His influence is reflected in the teams he helped build, the client relationships he supported, and the continued growth of the business.

“His professionalism, commitment, and integrity fit perfectly with Omega’s culture from day one. I congratulate him on his achievements and wish him all the very best in his next chapter,” says Vik.
